Wakefield Thornes Cricket Club

Wakefield Thornes Cricket Club is a thriving and successful Cricket Club with strong junior and senior sections. We pride ourselves on our first class facilities and friendly atmosphere .

We had an historic year in 2016 with our first team being crowned inaugural ECB Yorkshire South Premier League champions before going on to beat Harrogate in the Yorkshire Premier Cricket semi final play offs at Scarborough. We followed that up with an unforgettable and thrilling victory over Bradford League champions Pudsey St Lawrence in the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi to become the first ever Yorkshire Premier Cricket champions.

Our seconds were promoted to the First division of the South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League at the first time of asking and our thirds continue to give opportunities in senior cricket to many of our promising young players in the Pontefract Cricket League

We have a vibrant junior section with teams at Under 9's, 11's, 13's 15's and 17's who play in the Heavy Woollen Junior Cricket League and the Leeds Junior Cricket League. We also run junior winter coaching programmes, coaching in schools and school holiday cricket coaching and activities for children from 6 to 11 years old. We are very proud of the fact that many of our senior players have been a product of our Junior Set up.

The Club has an excellent social programme throughout the year which for the last few years has culminated in a major Charity Fundraising Day for local and national charities.

We are always delighted to welcome new members, both junior and senior in any capacity - playing, coaching, volunteering, spectating and especially socialising!
